Meh, there's plenty of these available for ~$10k these days. If they got it new, different story, otherwise I'd say it's just someone trying to be flashy. Also kinja won't let me load the enlarged image so I'm assuming its a 325.

Every time I see somebody my age with one of these that isn't brand spanking new (and most of the time when it is) I think "Your parents aren't very responsible with money are they?"

Sure, sometimes it probably really is the child of two neurosurgeons or something, but most of the time my wager would be on the other side.

Oh my bad—totally misread that. I'm never quite sure what to think when I see something like that. One the one hand, if the spots are wide I feel like it shouldn't matter much if you're in the lines. On the other hand, if you have all that room it's not like it's very difficult to get it in there nice and straight.

There are those parents out there that want their kid to be the cool kid, and get laid by all the chicks, etc. etc.

And then there are those that just push you out of the nest, sink or swim sucker.
Imagine the cost of maintaining a BMW driven by a first time driver. OMG.

Haha I find the thought of my parents taking such an active role in defining my social life (as in your first case) terrifying. That being said, when my parents were buying me a car my dad said "You're getting this car because it is efficient, cheap to maintain, and incredibly reliable. You can get something fun when you buy it yourself", and they did pass those values on to me. Weird how parenting works like that huh?

328xi, post face lift. So not quite a 10k car, but not a 30k car.

A friend of mine has one, and yes, his family is fairly loaded. Plus his cousins own a luxury used car dealership, which I believe is where they got it.

Obviously each case is different, and it's all relative anyways. I still think it'd be silly to buy something like this for your kid even if you could afford it though. Maybe that's just me.
